PORT O’CONNOR, Texas (AP) - The Coast Guard has rescued a man and his dog from a Texas bay after rough weather flipped their towboat and left both atop the vessel.

Nobody was hurt during Sunday’s rescue in Matagorda (mat-uh-GAR’-duh) Bay, near Port O’Connor, in a Coast Guard effort captured on videotape.

The video released Monday shows the boat bouncing in heavy waves. Petty Officer 2nd Class Gerard Wynne says conditions included 4-foot seas and 20-knot winds.

The man waves to rescuers, who throw him a line as he holds the yellow Labrador in his lap.

Officials say the man, who had a lifejacket tossed to him by rescuers, pushed his dog to safety first before climbing on the Coast Guard boat.

Port O’Connor is 90 miles northeast of Corpus Christi.
