SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The Caddo Parish School Board has denied Bishop Larry Brandon’s charter school proposal.

Brandon hoped to open an all-boys school with up to 250 students in August in Shreveport. Brandon says he’ll seek a charter from the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Board members voted to deny the application, saying organizers haven’t met conditions the board required for approval. In December, board members asked Brandon and consultants with Ed Futures to pinpoint a location, identify a school leader and provide an updated budget in March.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1iXc4OK ) organizers tagged former Caddo Parish middle school counselor Michael Hicks to lead the school.

They also proposed leasing space from Brandon’s church.

The church is the third location organizers proposed and wasn’t included in the original proposal.
