CAMPBELL, Calif. (AP) - Police say a 24-year-old homeless man is in custody on suspicion of fatally stabbing a teenage boy during a fight at a San Francisco Bay Area park.

Todd Tharp was booked into Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of murder following the stabbing on Sunday night.

Campbell police Sgt. Gary Berg says the 16-year-old San Jose boy was hanging out with some friends at the park when they apparently got into an altercation with Tharp near a baseball diamond.

The boy was stabbed and died from his injuries early Monday morning at a hospital.

Tharp also suffered injuries, but was treated and arrested.

KTVU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1gGnVJY) that investigators are trying to determine whether he acted in self-defense.
