LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Lewiston High School’s Kyle Lemelin has been named the 2014 winner of the Travis Roy Award.
The award goes to the top senior Class A hockey player in Maine.
Lemelin had 13 goals and 15 assists to lead Lewiston to the Class A East quarterfinals.
The award is named for Travis Roy, the Yarmouth native left paralyzed from a neck injury suffered 11 seconds into his first collegiate shift at Boston University in 1995.
Lemelin says the award is an honor because of the perseverance Roy has shown dealing with a devastating injury.
He is the second Lewiston player to win the award in its 19 years.
