RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A funeral service is scheduled Wednesday for a Virginia inmate who died after receiving clemency from the governor.

James Davis tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/PIWpG2 ) that his brother, 35-year-old Jason Scott Davis, died Sunday morning at his home in Henrico County.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe granted the family’s request for medical clemency last week. The family sought Jason Davis’ release so that he could die at home. His parents said he had terminal lung cancer.

The inmate was released Thursday. He had been scheduled to be released Nov. 10.

Jason Davis was serving a two-year, one-month sentence at Powhatan Correctional Center.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.
