HONOLULU (AP) - State officials say unemployment dropped in Hawaii to 4.6 percent in January, down one-tenth of one percentage point compared with December.

The state Department of Labor & Industrial Relations said Monday that the unemployment rate dropped three-tenths of one percentage point from 4.9 percent in January 2013.

The biggest drop compared with one year ago came on the Big Island, with Hawaii County dropping to 6.1 percent unemployment from 7.2 percent. Its unemployment rate was up two-tenths of a percentage point from December.



The unemployment rate in January was 4.2 percent on Oahu, 5.4 percent on Kauai and 5 percent in Maui. Nationally, the unemployment rate was 7 percent.
