FARGO, N.D. (AP) - The forestry department in Fargo says crews will begin to inspect firewood at homes around the city this week in an effort to manage the spread of Dutch elm disease.

The disease destroyed more than 300 elm trees in Fargo last year.

Authorities remind residents that storing or transporting elm wood with bark attached is banned in Fargo. Officials say those who want to use elm as firewood, must completely remove the bark.
