CHICAGO (AP) - TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau has expressed remorse and desperation as his sentencing nears for criminal contempt for violating orders not to air deceptive infomercials.
In a letter filed in federal court, the 50-year-old says he’s felt “shellshock” and “guilt” as his sentencing in Chicago Monday afternoon approaches.
He adds he’s stunned the government is seeking a prison term of at least 10 years when he thought he’d get no more than six months.
Trudeau has said previously the government is out to get him. But in his letter, dated March 12, he apologizes and says he’s a changed man.
The letter isn’t to his sentencing judge but to the judge in a related civil case, Robert Gettleman. Trudeau asks Gettleman to intercede and help ensure he gets a lesser sentence.
