MARION, N.C. (AP) - Friends and law-enforcement peers are remembering a U.S. Forest Service officer shot and killed during a manhunt for a North Carolina killer.
Jason Crisp’s family scheduled a visitation for Sunday afternoon at a church in Marion. His funeral has been set for Monday at McDowell High School’s gymnasium.
Crisp and his tracking dog were both ambushed as they tracked a man who had earlier shot and killed his own parents. Investigators say after he killed Crisp and the search dog, 38-year-old Troy Whisnant fired at three other officers who responded with deadly fire.
The FBI was investigating Crisp’s shooting.
