Popular LSU area cafe is moving, but not far

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A long-popular LSU-area diner is moving, but not far.

Louie’s Cafe will go from its current location to a nearby larger location with more parking.

Jimmy Wetherford Jr. and Frank Duvic, who own Louie’s, bought a former Wendy’s hamburgers restaurant for $825,000. The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1grh0Ih ) that the deal was filed with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s Office Thursday.

Wetherford said the plan is to move in the summer after remodeling the space to include an open kitchen and counter seating. Louie’s menu of omelets, hamburgers and hash browns will remain, but Wetherford said some new items may be added.

The new building will have seating for about 90 to 100 people. Louie’s currently seats 60. The new spot has 32 parking spaces. Louie’s currently has four.

Louie’s, which opened in 1941, has been at its 209 W. State St. location since 1986.

Wetherford said he hopes the restaurant can move to its new location with minimal interruptions to its 24-hour operations. “We’re hoping we can do it in one day,” he said.
