PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix firefighters have rescued a man who was stuck on steep cliff about 300 feet above a park.

Fire department officials say concerned hikers called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Sunday to report an adult male standing in a cliff area where there was not footing or hand holds available.

Authorities say rescue crews hiked up and used a rappel system to reach the man, who was combative with them.

They say the man’s combative behavior made putting him in a safety harness difficult.

Firefighters were able to bring the man down to a safer part of the mountain and placed him on a stretcher.

Officials say he was taken to a hospital but have not determined how he ended up there or why he was combative.
