PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man who stopped to aid a pedestrian he had hit with his van on a southern New Jersey roadway was later struck by a driver who fled the scene.

Pennsauken police tell the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill (https://on.cpsj.com/PG4AD9) that the accidents occurred early Sunday on Admiral Wilson Boulevard. They say the man hit by the van, 31-year-old Victor Gutierrez, later died from his injuries, while the van driver was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries.

The first accident occurred around 3:10 a.m. Authorities say the van driver stopped his vehicle and went to aid Gutierrez, but was soon hit by the other vehicle.

The van driver’s name has not been released.

No charges have been filed in the fatal accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
