NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $76 million contract to Boh Brothers Construction Co. to build a 7,200-foot-long section of an underground drainage canal in New Orleans.
The contract calls for the construction of a concrete covered box culvert under the Louisiana Avenue neutral ground from Constance Street to South Claiborne Avenue. It will tie into existing drainage structures at each end.
NOLA.com ’ The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1lGh7AB ) the project is part of the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control project. It’s aimed at reducing the risk of flood damage from a large rainfall event that has a 10 percent chance of occurring in any year. That equates to about 9 inches of rain over 24 hours in the New Orleans area.
Construction will be complete in fall 2017.
