AMITE, La. (AP) - Tangipahoa Parish authorities say they have caught a man who escaped from a work release facility in St. Tammany Parish, abducted a woman and eluded deputies for more than a day.
A news release from Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards gave no details of the arrest of Christopher Ricker. Edwards says details would be released later.
The 35-year-old Ricker was last was seen traveling on Louisiana Highway 442 in Loranger, his hometown.
Authorities say Ricker crashed a car into a tree near Cherokee Beach, got out and then jumped into the Tangipahoa River. He then was seen heading east on foot.
Authorities say Ricker left the Covington-based Northshore Workforce facility Thursday. Ricker apparently kidnapped a woman - his girlfriend - from a convenience store. She was set free in Hammond.
