MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Naba Echols scored 25 points and sank five 3-pointers to lead ninth-ranked Memphis Mitchell past No. 4 Meigs County 56-27 Saturday for the Division I Class A boys state basketball championship.
Jeremiah Martin dropped in 17 points for Mitchell (30-6), which took home its first gold ball after notching a fifth runner-up finish in 2012.
Levi Woods, Mr. Basketball finalist and Lee signee, had his third state tournament double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds as the lone senior for Meigs County (32-5).
Echols, named tourney MVP, scored all 13 of Mitchell’s points in the third quarter including a trio of treys for a 46-17 margin. Martin had nine points and Echols added seven during a 20-2 run that pushed Mitchell out 31-10 before Woods’ 3-pointer.
Mitchell led 28-4 in points off turnovers, and Kylan Phillips had six steals.
