BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Gov. Jack Dalrymple says four additional North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers have been assigned to the state’s oil and gas region.

The four troopers that recently completed their training will be stationed in the cities of New Town, Dickinson, Parshall and Minot in western North Dakota.

Col. Jim Prochniak with the highway patrol says the four officers will provide relief for current troopers in the area and will also help local law enforcement agencies.

Patrol officials say six of 12 other troopers expected to complete training by June will be assigned to Williston, the heart of oil country.

People have flocked to the region in recent years in search of high-paying jobs associated with the oil boom. The increase in population has led to a spike in crime rates.
