CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago transit officials say the full switch to the new and sometimes-criticized Ventra fare system should be completed by July 1.
A statement from the Chicago Transit Authority insist that software and other upgrades have improved the system and that it’s performed well over the last few months.
In December, the CTA conceded problems in the transition to Ventra cost $1.2 million in free rides between Oct. 1 and Dec. 19 last year. Some criticized the system as cumbersome.
Friday’s CTA statement says Ventra’s performance now meets standards set by the CTA in November. It adds the CTA will keep monitoring that performance closely.
By July, the agency says CTA and Pace customers should be fully converted to Ventra. It says 81 percent of CTA customers are currently using Ventra.
