MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi lawmakers have sent to Gov. Phil Bryant a bill to extend of McComb’s hotel/motel tax.
SB2956 would extend the tax until July 1, 2017. It is scheduled to expire this July 1.
The funds would be designated for tourism and recreation or the promotion of those activities.
City officials tell the Enterprise-Journal (https://bit.ly/1fY1oNR) that Since the tax was implemented, it has brought in about $584,708.
During the last three years, the funds have been dedicated to the renovations at the McComb Sports Park in east McComb.
Selectmen and recreation director Joseph Parker have discussed using the funding for the next three years to rehabilitate the parks around McComb, but no decision has been made.
