MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - Two elementary schools in southern Oregon will merge this fall.

The Mail Tribune newspaper reports (https://is.gd/BtZKC9 ) that White City and Mountain View elementary schools will be known as Table Rock Elementary School.

The White City schools took suggestions for the name from parents, teachers and staff. Leadership teams from both schools narrowed the choices to Agate Desert Elementary, White Mountain Elementary and Table Rock Elementary - and then let teachers vote.

About 90 percent chose Table Rock.

Students will help pick the mascot, which will be presented to the school board in April for approval.

The merger was approved in January, with the expectation that it will balance class sizes and create a sense of community.
