SCRIBA, N.Y. (AP) - A nuclear power plant on Lake Ontario in central New York is in service again after an unplanned shutdown Monday afternoon.
The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/1iJo6v2 ) that Nine Mile Point Unit 2 in Scriba (SKREYE’-buh) reached 100 percent power Friday morning. It was the second plant shutdown this month.
The plant automatically shut down at 4:30 p.m. Monday after a worker inadvertently contacted a highly sensitive plant component. Operators said the worker wasn’t hurt and the shutdown didn’t present a risk to public safety.
The shutdown this week wasn’t related to the one that occurred March 4 after the loss of off-site power to the plant’s control and alarm electrical circuits. The plant had returned to service on Sunday.
