PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The private Moses Brown School has received a $3.6 million gift from an alumnus that will be used to endow several teaching positions and educational programs.
The gift from Russell Carpenter is the second largest in the 230-year-old Quaker school’s history.
Originally from Barrington, Carpenter graduated from Moses Brown in 1959.
A former Rhodes Scholar and a graduate of Princeton University, Oxford University and Yale Law School, Carpenter is an attorney in Washington, D.C.
The Carpenter Program in Teaching Excellence announced Thursday will be used to create six new faculty positions to help students travel and experience unfamiliar cultures and solve real world problems.
