ACTON, Maine (AP) - A house fire in the Maine town of Action has damaged a home and sent the fire chief to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters from seven Maine towns and one in New Hampshire responded to reports of the blaze Friday morning in an unoccupied home. The intensity of the fire prompted the firefighters to evacuate occupants from another nearby house on Hopper Road.

Officials from the York County Sheriff’s Office were also on the scene.

Hopper Road was blocked until about noon.

Acton Fire Chief 46-year-old Peter Smith suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to the Sanford Campus of Southern Maine Medical Center. He was treated and released. Information on the owner of the house was not immediately available.
