ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) - An Eastern Oregon man has been accused of fatally shooting another man Friday morning in a hospital parking lot.
The two men knew each other and arrived together about 3:30 a.m. at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Ontario, where they met a female acquaintance in the west parking lot, police said.
The suspect is 24-year-old Juan Carlos Lopez, the Ontario Argus Observer (https://bit.ly/OqkG2i) reported.
Ontario police said he fled in a vehicle after the shooting of 42-year-old Dale Joseph Wright, running over Wright.
The woman summoned help from the hospital, police said. Wright was taken inside, where he was declared dead.
About three hours after the shooting, Lopez was arrested about a dozen miles south, at a residence in Nyssa (NIS’-uh), and then booked on a murder charge.
Police didn’t describe a motive. It wasn’t immediately known whether Lopez had a lawyer.
The hospital said in a statement that there was no danger to hospital staff members, patients or guests.
“Our security, medical and support staff handled the incident very well,” it said.
Both Lopez and Wright are from Ontario.
The paper said the Oregon State Police are managing the investigation.
