RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Winter continues to cause problems in the mountains of North Carolina, closing schools in two counties and delaying classes in other areas..

The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday in seven counties. Forecasters say up to 3 inches of snow is possible in Avery, Graham, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Swain and Yancey counties.

Forecasters also said a bit of snow is still possible in Ashe, Allegheny and Watauga counties.



Schools are closed in Avery and Watauga counties.

Duke Energy reports more than 10,000 customers without service as high winds are reported across much of the state. The biggest problems are in Swain and Forsyth counties.
