ST. LOUIS (AP) - Investigators will seek the cause of a rush-hour fire that destroyed an empty school bus on Interstate 70 in St. Louis.

KMOV-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1lCJ5x3 ) the driver had just dropped off her last student when the bus caught fire on the eastbound lanes shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.

The driver was able to get out before the fire ripped through the length of the bus, sending flames and heavy smoke into the air. Traffic was backed up on I-70 while crews extinguished the fire.

The vehicle was owned by Durham School Bus Company. It wasn’t immediately known which school it served.
