CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Appalachian Power has restored service to most of its West Virginia customers whose power was knocked out by strong winds.

The utility says about 1,400 customers remained without electricity as of 10 a.m. Thursday, down from about 26,000 Wednesday when strong wind gusts blew across the state.

The remaining outages are in Fayette, Mingo, Nicholas, Raleigh and Wyoming counties.
