Identity theft measure advances in Colorado

DENVER (AP) - Colorado motorists would no longer have to sign their vehicle registration cards under an identity-theft measure advancing in the state Legislature.

The state Senate gave unanimous preliminary approval to the bill Wednesday. The measure would remove a requirement that motorists carry signed registration cards in the vehicle.

The bill also removes a requirement that home addresses be printed on the cards.

Sponsors say signed registration cards in glove boxes put drivers at risk for identity theft.

One more Senate vote is required before the bill advances to the House.
