BOONES MILL, Va. (AP) - The town of Boones Mill has received a $50,000 grant in its effort to move and restore its old train depot.
Officials received the money from an unnamed benefactor and have asked asking the public to match it.
Norfolk Southern Corp. owns the land on which the depot currently sits. It has given the town until May 1 to move the structure.
The depot was built in the early 1900s. Boones Mill officials hope to restore the depot and use it as a public space.
The Roanoke Times reports (https://bit.ly/1oMTnKW) that the effort is being headed by town leaders and the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
