MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (AP) - A suburban Chicago family is suing their neighbor, accusing her of harassing them over five years because of their race.

Attorney William Kraus says Iris Howe and her children have been harassed by their white neighbor across the street, saying she is trying to drive the black family from their home.

Kraus says the woman has been most aggressive with the children, telling them to “die,” and using racial slurs against them. She has also followed the children in her car as they walk down the street in a neighborhood without sidewalks.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court, seeks a restraining order and damages exceeding $50,000.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports the woman named in the lawsuit hung up when asked for comment on the allegations.
