VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A June 11 sentencing is set for a mother who pleaded guilty to child neglect in the death of her 13-month-old son.

Amanda Barrington entered her plea Monday in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.

Under a plea agreement, she would face a maximum three-year sentence. But Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Macie Pridgen tells The Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/1g4giMq ) that the judge could reject that sentence.

Barrington’s son, Devin Barrington Abbott, died on Nov. 26, 2012. An autopsy found signs of dehydration and starvation.

City social workers were investigating neglect complaints against Barrington before her son died.

A city audit found that social workers didn’t conduct follow-up visits and didn’t test Barrett extensively for drugs. The audit also said staff didn’t listen to 911 calls involving the family.
