BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A state-funded program that aims to turn research on North Dakota college campuses into jobs has awarded grants totaling more than $1.2 million.

The North Dakota Centers of Excellence Commission awarded the bulk of the money to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences to help find a cure for an infectious disease that is often fatal for dogs.

The $1 million grant is going to the Grand Forks-based university and a company called Avianax to develop a therapeutic for parvovirus infection.
