SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 34-year-old Salt Lake City man accused of trying to burn down a building with his wife inside has been ordered to one to 15 years in prison.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1nFNdh0 ) Daniel Ivins was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to arson and aggravated assault. Prosecutors dropped charges including attempted murder in exchange for the plea.
Police say Ivins set fire to a loveseat during a dispute with his wife at their apartment building on May 8.
Authorities say Ivins cut his wife’s lip in a fight, and she had a black eye and bruises from previous altercations.
The woman’s mother told police she heard Ivins say, “I hope you die,” as the woman tried to escape from him.
Nobody was hurt in the fire.
