SYOSSET, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say service was delayed on three Long Island Rail Road branches after a man was fatally struck by a train.

LIRR spokesman Sal Arena says the man apparently darted onto the tracks at around 6 a.m. Tuesday east of the Syosset (sy-AH’-seht) Woodbury Road crossing.

The train was carrying about 300 passengers.

The shutdown on the Port Jefferson Branch also resulted in delays on the Ronkonkoma (rahn-KAHN’-kuh-muh) and the Oyster Bay branches.

Buses were provided for passengers affected by the service suspension.
