HUDSON, Fla. (AP) - A Hudson man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities say he fatally shot his neighbor’s dog.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says 55-year-old Matthew Hugh Schnacky shot the 2-year-old black Labrador named Hunter on Sunday when it was about 145 feet away from his front gate.

The Tampa Tribune (https://bit.ly/Oh7tZM ) reports that neighbors and Hunter’s owner Randall Patsches described Hunter as gentle and timid.

A neighbor told deputies the dog dropped dead immediately.

There was no word on why the dog was shot.

Schnacky was released from the Pasco County Jail Monday after posting $5,000 bail. It was not clear whether he’s hired an attorney.
