DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit firefighter kept working after being injured while falling through the floor of a burning home on the city’s east side.

Scott Kasinec tells WWJ-AM that his helmet came off during the fall Tuesday morning and he might have been badly hurt if it weren’t for his safety equipment. He landed on his feet and, after being helped out by fellow firefighters, continued to fight the blaze.

Kasinec used a ladder handed down by fellow firefighters to get out of the home. He was expected to be checked out at a hospital.

The Detroit News reports Kasinec had burns that were described as minor.

The home was destroyed by the fire. No one was living at the home at the time. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
