ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - The one-time energy director for the city of Rockford has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to mail fraud.

The Rockford Register Star reports (https://bit.ly/1cQQkw4 ) Mark Bixby was sentenced Monday. He’ll also have to pay nearly $42,000 in restitution and spend three years on supervised release once he leaves prison.

The 58-year-old Rockton man pleaded guilty to mail fraud in November. He was accused of defrauding a heating contractor and window contractor, who each worked for the city’s weatherization program.

The program was created to help low-income residents reduce energy usage and save money by upgrading heating systems, windows and doors.
