RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia officials are holding an essay contest for female high school students who plan to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The 3rd annual contest for high school junior and senior girls is being co-chaired by Gov. Terry McAuliffe and first lady Dorothy McAuliffe.
The Virginia Council on Women will award one $5,000 scholarship to a female junior or senior. Other scholarships may be awarded at the council’s discretion.
Last year the council received 330 essays submissions and raised $22,000 to distribute in scholarship awards.
Entries must be submitted by March 30 and winners will be notified by April 25.
