ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska transportation officials say there will be intermittent closures on the Seward Highway for work to reduce avalanche hazards.

Transportation spokeswoman Jill Reese says the work will involve setting off explosives.

The work is scheduled to take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday between Girdwood and Bird, and Girdwood and Portage Valley.

Delays of up to 45 minutes on the highway can be expected.
