ABDERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A buildup of a petroleum odor has city workers in Aberdeen venting sewer lines.

Officials have been trying to determine the odor’s origin since December. The American News reports (https://bit.ly/1foU3FK) that Assistant City Engineer Stu Nelson says contaminated soil might be a cause.

City workers are using a blower to vent the smell to prevent it from entering homes.

Nelson says a high concentration of the odor can be flammable, but the current levels are far from that.
