NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Two people have died in a wreck in North Charleston.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the South Carolina Highway Patrol was conducting a license checkpoint Monday night near Interstate 26.
Officials say a man driving a car stopped at the checkpoint but drove off after being asked for his driver’s license. Deputies say the man hit a fence and the car caught fire.
Deputies say a male in the car died at the scene. The driver was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston where he died.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The wreck is still under investigation.
