SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County deputies say two women have been arrested after they were caught trying to remove copper pipes from a vacant house in Sparks.

Deputies say 52-year-old Julia Ann Soukup and 46-year-old Melissa Kay Davis were arrested Thursday on burglary charges after a neighbor called to report suspicious activity.

The Reno Gazette-Journal (https://on.rgj.com/1dIwaI8 ) reports a resident called the sheriff’s office after seeing a strange vehicle in the driveway and noises coming from within the house on Shadow Lane.

Authorities caution that metal thieves commonly target vacant properties or homes when owners are away.
