JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - University of Alaska students testified Monday that they don’t want guns on campus.
University of Alaska Fairbanks student regent Courtney Enright tells the Senate Judiciary Committee that 70 percent of the student calls she received were against Senate Bill 176, which would allow concealed firearms on campus.
She says students are concerned about protecting the learning environment.
She also says students believe the university is a high-stress environment and that they are concerned about firearms and the high rate of alcohol use on campus.
Not all students opposed guns on campus.
Tasha Hansen, a University of Alaska Southeast student wheelchair user, says she was stalked on campus she was informed there were no security personnel she could turn to.
The bill remains in committee.
