SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) - The City of Smyrna is planning to host a tornado drill later this month that could become a national model for federal agencies.

The Marietta Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1lkStFl ) reports the city is working with a local hospital to create a joint emergency operations center and the drill is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s program titled “America’s Prepareathon.”

During the drill, hospital administrators and local emergency responders will simulate a tornado hitting a wing of the hospital and patients needing to be evacuated from the building.

The public-private partnership between the city and Emory-Adventist hospital is expected to allow the city and the facility to consolidate effort and share resources.

The drill is scheduled for Friday at noon.
