LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A pastor in Lexington is apologizing for a skit that featured a white church member performing in blackface.

Pastor Jeff Fugate of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church says he received several complaints about the skit last week.

Fugate told the Lexington Herald-Leader (https://bit.ly/PknQpo ) he was not aware the church member, his assistant Joseph Pickens, would be wearing black makeup on his face. Pickens was dressed as Mr. T for a boxing match skit. He says that part of the skit was put on “innocently or in ignorance.”

A YouTube video showing the skit appeared on a blog and was later shared on social media.

The skits were part of the National Young Fundamentalists Conference held Wednesday through Friday at the church.
