ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia state House of Representatives has passed a bill allowing Savannah area bars to sell liquor the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day.
The bill passed in a 147-7 vote Tuesday morning and the Senate has already passed its version.
The bill calls for cities and counties to adopt a resolution allowing bars to sell alcohol from 12:30 p.m. until midnight the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day. The holiday this year falls on Monday, March 17.
Savannah restaurants are allowed to sell liquor on Sundays, and the Savannah Morning News reports City Council members have said the legislation is fair to bar owners and addresses demand for alcohol during the annual tourist event.
Spokesman for Gov. Nathan Deal Brian Robinson told the newspaper the governor plans on signing the legislation.
