RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Firefighters say a long-abandoned Vermont motel has been damaged in a fire.
The fire broke out at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Flory’s Motel in Rutland. An hour later, firefighters believed they had contained the blaze to the right-hand side of the building, but the smoke soon spread across the entire structure and flames could be seen through windows.
The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1lNRTmG ) an excavator began tearing down the left-hand side of the structure to keep the fire from spreading to the neighbor’s house.
The building is part of a stretch of land on Business Route 4 that was abandoned decades ago.
The cause was not immediately determined. No injuries were reported.
