SAN DIEGO (AP) - Homicide detectives are investigating after a smoldering body was found on a dirt road in San Diego County.

U-T San Diego reports (https://bit.ly/1cnuWDK) deputies responded before dawn Sunday to a report of a body on fire just off Sequan Truck Trail in the Alpine area.

Lt. Glenn Giannantonio says the body was found by an employee of the Sweetwater Authority, the water agency that oversees the area’s reservoirs.

Alpine is on the edge of the Cleveland National Forest, about 30 miles east of downtown San Diego.
