HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (AP) - A Hudsonville youth pastor is camping out in frigid temperatures this weekend to raise money to send his youth group on a mission trip to Nicaragua.

This isn’t the first time Fig VanderMolen has camped out in the cold.

The Messiah Christian Reformed Church youth pastor tells WOOD-TV (https://bit.ly/1fR6gT6 ) people were giving him a hard time two or three years ago when temperatures were in the 45- to 50 -degree range.

This year, he says there’s no way supporters would let him live it down if he bailed.

VanderMolen says he plans to spend most of the weekend in an old canvas cabin tent that has been furnished with a table and a lantern.

For every $40 raised, VanderMolen says he’ll stay outside for an additional hour.
