SUTTONS BAY, Mich. (AP) - A northern Lower Michigan high school senior has been charged with threatening another student with a knife.

Jason Winowiecki was arraigned Friday in Leelanau County District Court on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon in a weapons-free school zone.

Authorities say the 17-year-old came up behind the victim at Suttons Bay High School’s “Snow Ball” dance on Feb. 22, pushed a knife against his throat and threatened him.

Winowiecki was arrested after a group of students told school officials about the incident two days later.

A message seeking comment was left Saturday with Winowiecki’s lawyer.

School officials suspended Winowiecki pending a hearing. The Traverse City Record-Eagle says (https://bit.ly/1mMpXkz ) he remains in the Leelanau County jail on a $250,000 bond.

Winowiecki faces up to four years in prison.
