NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tournament MVP Nathan Moran scored 17 points to help Battle Ground Academy defeat rival Franklin Road Academy 62-49 Saturday for the Tennessee Division II Class A boys state championship.

Andrew Cowie had 13 points and Terrell Webster added 11 for the Wildcats (31-3), who dropped down in classification this year. It marks BGA’s first state basketball championship in 20 years since back-to-back crowns in 1993 and 1994.

Western Kentucky signee Rob Marberry, named Mr. Basketball after the game, led the Panthers (26-9) with 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Marberry had a pair of three-point plays as FRA got off to a 15-4 start.

Moran’s steal and layup gave BGA a 29-26 halftime advantage, then his second 3-pointer to start the second half stretched it to 32-26. BGA finished the third quarter with a 12-0 run, including consecutive 3-pointers by Noah Mayberry and Cowie to lead 53-32.
